Jim Mattlngly

When I think of Jim Mattingly, I think strong, big voice, kind soul and wonderful artist.  This painting is titled "The Teacher" and it hangs prominently in our home as a reminder of this sweet man.

Over the last month, Jim's beautiful mural that graces the back of Salem's Elsinore Theater has been getting a face lift.   Cleaning, redefining and repainting.

We all are watching, oohing and aaahing over this spectacular sight.

yay for Salem....but a much heartfelt thanks from those that knew Jim as a teacher.
Jim taught us to stand strong as artists and to believe in ourselves.  We loved this guy and we are proud to watch this mural be restored and know he's smiling down at all of Salem.

I am so glad that more people will recognize the name "Mattingly" through this great mural renewal project. He was a fine artist in several media. Personally, I remember most his quiet, subtle, warming humor. ~Kathleen Casey
